{Hiphop not your thing? Try this version (husband and wife!}

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]kay. Okay. I know I said no hip hop for 2016’s list of favorite songs. I was kinda trying to prove that I can listen to more than rap these days. But uh… it’s not easy!

Recently a little earworm whispered “listen to Weezy” and so I fired up tha Carter III. And was like oh yeah! I fucking love this dude! I mentioned it in passing to husband and he goes, “oh, it’s a bit early for that. Your Lil Wayne obsession usually happens in the summer”.

And I’m like huh? Am I that predictable? Am I that set in my ways? I guess I am.

Seasons & Focus & Information Overload

I live a life of cycles, typically guided by the season. How certain weather makes you think of certain music. Or how specific seasons urge you to make changes. And I find myself falling into that cycle, not even realizing it.

It was 70 degrees the beginning of last week, triggering a sense not wanting to do anything and listening to Weezy. But then the Colorado mountain god dumped a ton of snow out of nowhere. My minivan ice-skated all the way to school last Friday, it was terrifying! But I guess this is spring.

The beginning of spring is a great time to recall those new year resolutions we dreamed up three months ago. If you remember, my goal was to relearn how to focus. Basically to retrain my brain to focus on one thing at a time.

A podcast I enjoy, Note to Self, did a series a while ago on information overload. It’s called “infomagical“. These are pretty quick episodes and are so good! If you need some inspiration this Monday to get you back on track and off your smart phone, check it out. The first challenge was a day of zero multi-tasking.

The part of our brain that is able to focus and concentrate has to be exercised. As I get older I see that more and more, and I like to think I am getting better at it. But it’s certainly not easy in our current world, to focus on one thing at a time.

Today I am going to focus. On the task at hand, or just on the current space I happen exist in. I’m going to exercise my brain this morning, and perhaps you’d like to try too! Let’s retrain our brains to stay on task this Monday. And remember, real G’s move in silence like lasagna.

Motivational Monday (sometimes Tuesday hehe) is The Stoner Mom’s weekly music post dedicated to introducing moms to some non-dorky jams. Or maybe it’s just an excuse for The Stoner Mom to listen to her favorite jams? In 2015 I highlighted my favorite rap songs. This year I’m covering my all-time favorite songs.

The Stoner Mom is a pulled-together, WAHM, SAHM, boo-boo kissing supermom. Most would assume she is not stoned. Most would be quite wrong.
