MADAS 31 | Dispensary Etiquette, Should You Tip at a Dispensary? | Mom & Dad are Stoned Podcast

In today’s episode, The Stoner Mom goes on a big rant about tipping in medical marijuana dispensaries. Should you tip? Is it gauche to put a tip jar out? We also answer some listener questions about vacationing without cannabis and talking to parents about pot use. Other segments: What’s Going on in Dave’s Grow, ST8 TALK, and TV Time. Wow. We are really clever with these segment names.   Podcast: Play in new window | DownloadSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSS   .  To Tip or Not to Tip At first glance it may seem harmless, but I’m convinced...

MADAS 28 | Tolerance to Cannabis | Mom & Dad are Stoned Podcast

Tolerance to Cannabis is one of the most misunderstood aspects of the stoner lifestyle. When the occasional asshole asks me, “how can you possibly parent when you’re stoned all day?!” I can barely contain my eye roll. Non-stoners just don’t get tolerance or the concept that a regular cannabis user is substantially less affected by weed than the recreational user. It’s a pet peeve of mine, people assuming that cannabis affects everyone, in the same way, so in today’s episode we are educating ya’ll on tolerance- the magical concept that allows stoners to be happily medicated and high-functioning.    Podcast:...

Dabbing for Beginners

WTF r Dabs? For the beginner, doing dabs might look a little like… crack. We see the images on Instagram, of young and pretty women with their torch aflame and a perma-stoned smile. And we get scared. I mean, butane? Hot pokey tools? Are we chasing the dragon here? Certainly, none of that stuff has a place in a responsible parents house… right? The truth is, doing dabs, or dabbing, is simply a fast, clean way to get as stoned as possible as quickly as possible. Instead of smoking flower (what we call traditional marijuana), you are smoking a cannabis concentrate,...

MADAS 26 | Grow Weed at Home: The Simplest Way | Mom & Dad are Stoned Podcast

For something called “weed”, cannabis sure has developed quite a reputation for being the delicate princess plant of master botanists. Marijuana enthusiasts have no trouble talking about the minutia of growing, but what about the black-thumbed rest of us? What if you don’t actually care about hydro and nutrients, and vegetation cycles?   Podcast: Play in new window | DownloadSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSS   The Stoner Mom is good at nurturing children and pets. Plants, not so much. In this episode, David teaches us the easiest and most basic method for growing a single cannabis plant, starting...

How to Smoke Weed Without the Smell

Managing Smell in a Cannabis Friendly Home The question I get asked again and again, more than any other question, is some form of “how does your house not smell like cannabis??” From the house itself to my children’s school items, people want to know how I keep from stanking up everything. When I was a newbie stoner I was semi-paranoid about the smell. I would often smoke weed in the car with the BFF, and when it was time to pull ourselves out of a hot-boxed car, we would spray ourselves with Victoria Secret Body Spray. (Which...

Motivational Monday- Travel with Weed!

High by The Beach: Travel with Weed When contemplating entering an American airport with cannabis, the average responsible adult is likely to start sweating profusely before deciding no freaking way. I mean, we’re not idiots. But when you are a medical patient, you find yourself in the peculiar place where your right to medication, legally prescribed and legal in half of our states, is endangered. And it can piss you off. You ask yourself, who is the fucking government to tell me that I can’t use my prescribed medication on vacation? There is a point when your personal...

MADAS 20 | Sex, Pot, and “Coming Out” to Someone who Doesn’t Approve | Mom & Dad are Stoned Podcast

Some things go hand in hand, like inebriation and morning-after regrets. Cannabis and lovemaking just so happen to be one of those things. Today we are talking about all the crazy-awesome (and slightly scary) things that may/could/might/should/will/won’t happen when you attempt to combine sex and marijuana. Want to hear us sounding incredibly uncomfortable and struggling not to use vulgar terms? This is the one for you.  We also cover an important and challenging topic: How to talk about cannabis to someone who does not approve. Since The Stoner Mom used to be The Judgy Mom, I feel especially qualified to...

Edibles Review: Pure CBD Cheeba Chew

Anxiety Sufferers Rejoice! An Edible that Won’t Make you Crazy. So, I don’t talk about edibles a lot here on The Stoner Mom. I have shared a particularly standout memory at a Colorado casino, which I recount in this video, but that’s about it. I am very sensitive to the taste of cannabis when I’m eating it, and I truly, do not like it. But, edibles are super effective and highly potent. Basically, they are fun as heck if you can manage to get them down. The Pure CBD Chew is unique because it is a completely non-psychoactive therefore...

CBD, THC, Terpene, Oh My! Does Sativa/Indica Matter Anymore?

Leave the Googling to Me You know, when I started out this whole project to be a public stoner, I didn’t think I was going to have to brush up on my neuroscience and biology. But I was wrong. So very wrong. Today I will explain the abbreviations and other sciencey words in layman terms, hopefully clearing up some of the confusion and saving you guys from a lot of googling. When trying to predict how different strains might affect us, we often revert to sativa or indica, but it’s becoming increasingly common to see cannabinoid and terpene percentages with...

GrowCast Episode 4: How to Grow Hydroponic Weed

In Which The Stoner Mom Goes on a Non-Related Tangent *Note: Since the day my husband decided he was going to start growing hydro, he has annoyingly sung Lana del Rey’s “Brooklyn Baby” to me at random times throughout the day. For like, months now. MONTHS!!! And, since he outlines the show notes for his podcast but I actually write them, he had of course inserted his dumb joke/reference into today’s post. I’m taking it out, and combating his terrible impersonation with listening to dance mixes of our queen of sadness. Here’s one I love, queued up to...

How to Grow Weed

On Podcasting My husband likes to talk. A lot. He’s one of those extroverted, bold, constantly yakking, tapping, bobbing, noise-making people. I am NOT one of those people. Other than my preference for loud music, I am a virtually silent person. I appear beside people alone in rooms. Never has this been clearer than our first few attempts at podcasting. See we’re planning on having two podcasts; The Stoner Mom Podcast, hosted by me, and more about the stuff I write about. David’s GrowCast is about how to grow weed, something I don’t really know jack about. So we...

Insta-Hash

Why Husband is the Flyist So the other day I had sequestered myself up in my bedroom and the husband rushes in excitedly. With dry ice. Something about this man, he just can’t sit still.  No matter how hard he has worked, how late his baby kept him awake, how long he was at the office… he always has to be doing something for me or the house. Anyway, if you follow me on IG or MassRoots you’ve seen his amazing experiment making dry ice bubble hash. At his weekly visit to the grow store his buddies show him...

Lazy and Depressed: The Plight of the Stoner

Does Frequent Marijuana Use Promote Depression? I had to laugh the other day when I had TWO conflicting headlines in my news feed: Marijuana Linked to Depression, and Pot Can Relieve Anxiety and Depression. So, which is it? Does marijuana help depression or does it cause it? If it makes us all so depressed why is the most commonly reported reason for marijuana use “stress relief”? Since I’ve started thestonermom.com I’ve received many emails from moms using cannabis to relax and keep a handle on their anxiety and depression, just like I do. Are we all wrong? Are we all making ourselves sicker? My Fight With Depression I have had a major depressive disorder since puberty. In my early 20’s I started dealing with anxiety attacks as well. In the past my anxiety could get so bad that I would be incapable of driving. Terror of the unknown would ruin many attempts to get out and do stuff. My depression was equally debilitating. A despair that would make me lash out. A hollow feeling in my stomach of complete meaninglessness. I would have depressive episodes that would leave me in bed with the door locked, crying silent tears as I stared out into nothingness. Shortly after the birth of my first child I went on anti-anxiety and anti-depressant medications. They work wonders and my anxiety problems have been gone for...

Mother Does Not Approve: The Stoner Mom’s thoughts on the cons of weed

The Downside of Cannabis (hint: there’s not a lot of them) Potheads are known for being… not bright. It’s a perception I am trying to change (along with many others), but it’s not easy. Wanna know why? Because people do stupid things when they’re high. They forget what they’re talking about, or look suspiciously sleepy, or eat something not belonging to them. Then there are pot advocates that are incredibly passionate about the issue. Loud in their protests and exhibiting a tendency to overlook any of the potential negatives of pot. Though I am an advocate for national marijuana...

Q&A: How do you keep the room from stanking?

A recent question from a reader: How do you control the smell of marijuana in the house?  The Stoner Mom doesn’t mess around when it comes to a stinky house. I have too many playdates and little ones running around to have a house that smells like potheads live here. Fortunately for me, my house is big and airy, so it’s pretty easy to air out quickly. Here are some techniques for controlling the smell of your secret mommy deeds:   1. Use a vaporizer. Gosh, I swear if more moms knew about vaping the amount of stoned moms in Colorado...

It’s an incrEdible Weekend

My Friday. After a day of housework and caring for kids, I see them off for the usual fun-filled weekend with their dad. Now I am responsible for no little ones. I throw on my shoes, get in my husband’s car and drive to the nearest dispensary. By some trick of luck I ended up buying a house five minutes away from a great dispensary. Days are short now and it’s dark when I pull up. And cold. The security guard opens the door for me, I check in and am buzzed into the store. Edibles. I’m on the...
