Why on Earth, at the age of 32 would I decide to start uploading videos of myself getting stoned?

Well, most likely I was stoned when I decided to do it.

I mean really, this is a valid question right? Most moms don’t do this, even the ones that are total potheads! So why on earth is this self-proclaimed super mom exposes herself in this… odd way?

Well. You see, I am not a dinosaur. Yes I’m a mom. I have children, and drive a minivan, and wear loungewear outside, but I’m still, you know. WITH IT. Media has changed, society has changed, and any business person with their own brand understands how important connecting with their audience is. So The Stoner Mom Show on YouTube became a pretty natural extension of what I was already doing here on the website (demonstrating responsible cannabis use). In the beginning I didn’t really know what I was going to be using video for, I just knew I had to have some sort of video presence.

I am a great example of someone who ABSOLUTELY CANNOT STAND MAKING VIDEOS OF THEMSELVES, being able to get over it. It absolutely took a long time, no doubt. My first like, 20 videos are super crappy. But goddamn I did not stop, and you know what? I got better. And now I’m able to set up a camera and start talking in under two hours, which is what it was taking for me to just stutter out an introduction.

The Stoner Mom Show started in February 2015 with this awful Stoner Sesh video!

Followed by several super short smoke sesh videos. I would record myself for at least an hour and in the end come out with 4-6 minutes of footage of myself that I could stand. This continued video after video. I started out filming on my Macbook using the Facetime camera and iMovie to edit.

I can see now that starting this way was subconsciously intentional. I was keeping distance from my audience in the form of bad quality. I’m trying to convey, hey, look how casual this video is. None of this is serious, so don’t judge me seriously.

The length of my videos didn’t increase for a long time, but you could tell that I was gradually getting more comfortable making these things. My personality starts to emerge. I am funny and intelligent but also forgetful and you know… stoned.

I began to expand into more structured episodes, outside of the random smoke session videos. And then, when I start filming and speaking with a specific topic in mind, the show improves quickly.

My most viewed video, How to Smoke Weed with a Pipe, brings in the most viewers, but also the most hateraid. Oh well.

For the first Ask The Stoner Mom episode I finally start using one of the many DSLR’s around the house, instead of my Macbook. It took me some time to develop the confidence to do this, but once I did things instantly started to look better.

And then I really kinda hit my stride! The more I share, the more comfortable I get.

By the end of 2015 The Stoner Mom Show has developed a cute little format of smoking weed, getting high and doing some yakking about predetermined topics.

In 2016 I will be adding more videos of family and domestic life, continuing with vlogging my stoner sessions, and making more videos about stoner specific topics like:

  • CBD, THC, WTF are cannabinoids
  • Terpenes, Sativa, Indica, Hybrid, Myrcene and why cannabis makes people feel a variety of ways
  • More Stoner Basics: Tips and Tricks to Get Started Smoking Weed Right
  • Vaping 101
  • Updating and re-filming videos, now that I don’t suck so bad
  • Different ways to get high
  • Regular Ask The Stoner Mom episodes

The Stoner Mom is a pulled-together, WAHM, SAHM, boo-boo kissing supermom. Most would assume she is not stoned. Most would be quite wrong.
