Since the earliest days of our legal home cannabis grow, my husband David has lusted after Blackdog LED lights, widely considered the best commercial grow lights, and therefore well out of our price range. So imagine my surprise when he came home one day last year and announced that he’d met the owner and talked his way into a part-time position over at Blackdog. Actually, I wasn’t surprised at all, since talking his way into various opportunities has always been a strength of his and something I really love about him.
Anyway, fast forward to today and he’s been happily working there three days a week, surrounded by cannabis both at work and at home. That means that our entire income comes from working in the cannabis industry. I am honestly still flabbergasted by the idea of it, and I just have to thank the universe that the stars lined up in such a way to make this unconventional life possible.
One of my favorite parts of running The Stoner Mom for a living is that I still get to dabble in photography. Almost all the images on my image-heavy website are by me, and I can’t imagine having it any other way. For me, writing and photography are my main forms of real communication. I’ve never been a big talker, even in my videos I have to be stoned to be comfortable enough to speak, and so finding a voice with images and writing has been invaluable for expressing myself.
A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be asked to photograph the INSANE cannabis plants over at Blackdog LED. I hadn’t yet had a chance to check out my hubby’s new employer, and so one day when the kids were in school David drove me to Boulder and I got to see the office, meet his coworkers, and see the lights in action at their grow location. And then I got to photograph their beautiful ladies in full flower mode.
Few things are as fun as photographing weed. I couldn’t keep these images to myself and Blackdog, and so here are some highlights from that shoot. I tell you, the smells were heavenly, and these girls were the most willing and pliant of models. Hope you enjoy!

Those really are some beauts. I try to tell everyone how important light is for cannabis production!
