This week we talk a little about surface temperatures and how they affect your plants. I even use a cool radiant temperature gun.

What’s Going On in Dave’s Grow? | Surface Temperatures

Surface temperatures are important for your plant’s growth. Too hot or too cold can affect the plant’s metabolic reactions. So what is the ideal temperature we want our beloved plants to live in? Well, traditional HID growers have learned that plants tend to flourish when the grow area’s temperature is right around 75 degrees.

At this temperature, the plant’s leaves are right around 88 degrees which is optimal. However, things can get pretty hot when using HID lighting. The bulbs burn pretty hot so it is a challenge to keep the temperature in our 75 degree zone. This is when the HID growers bring in the extra tools to lower those temps.

Portable AC units are used as well as additional fans. All of this equals more electricity and higher energy bills. Not to mention now your grow area is loaded up with tons of equipment leaving little space to work with. The great thing about LED lighting is they already run cooler. There is no need for AC or extra fans. Not to mention the wattage is much lower than traditional HID lighting.

In the past, LED solutions were not up to par with traditional HID lighting. This is where the LED is inferior argument came from for those HID people. Today, that is simply not the case. Advances in LED technology have creative wonderful lighting options for us growers to use. Black Dog makes the best LED lights that can definitely go toe to toe with the HID lighting.

Don’t take my word for it, head over to Black Dog LED to learn more about these amazing lights. I couldn’t be happier and I feel like my plants are showing great progress under one Black Dog light.

At the end of the day, use whatever you like. Believe what ever you like. Just make an informed decision. Do your research. There is a reason the HID lighting people love their lights. Their yields are amazing! The argument that LED is inferior is simply just outdated and un true.

Lastly,

The kit you have seen in this video series is soon to be available. I would say in the next 2 weeks you should see the kits on their site. This is not to be confused with the existing kits they have for sale now. Those are not the same. Soon you will be able to choose from bundled kits with lighting options, or create your own kit with the a la cart option. All coming soon!
