Today we are defoliating the plants, mixing the flowering nutrients, and flipping these plants to flower.
Why Defoliate?
I know I have made quite a few videos around defoliation like this one. I will say that defoliation is not something you absolutely need to do. your plants will still produce flower and do just fine without cutting all of their leaves off.
I defoliate to open up the canopy of the plant and allow light to get down into the bottom part of the plant. It also promotes vigorous growth and makes your plants much fuller with more developed bud sites. All the leaves grow back in about 3-4 days so don’t worry!
Changing Light Cycles
When I say “flip to flower” it means I am changing the timer of the light in the grow tent to go from 18 hours of light to 12 hours. I recommend a no-nonsense timer like this one that plugs into the outlet. You can also get a strip with a timer on it like this as well.
The light change mimics the changing of seasons from the end of summer to fall which triggers the plant to think it’s time to grow all of its buds and end its cycle of life. You will gradually start to see bud sites forming within the first 2 weeks of the cycle change.
Once again a huge thank you to Zen-Products nutrients. I have been using them throughout the grow and am happy with the results thus far. You can see me mix my first flowering batch in this video. Be sure to try the EZ-Zentials shown in this grow series.
Coming Up Next!
I am going to be trying out a new grow light from Electrivo that features a built-in UV option. Going unpack and set up in the next video and stay tuned for a grow light giveaway as well.
