Marijuana IS Medicine

Peace by the gram

Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance.

-George Bernard Shaw

Happy Veterans day stoners! This is the day when I encourage stoners to give a veteran a joint. I think that’s a pretty awesome way to brighten someone’s day, don’t you? There are a lot of reasons veterans deserve the right to access cannabis. It’s a healthy treatment for a variety of medical issues, but sadly this is still not public knowledge, making medical users feel ashamed of their medication.

With the DEA Chief in the news, singling out every American that uses cannabis as medicine, I wanted to take the time to acknowledge officially that marijuana has changed my mental health for the better. Thus far, cannabis has been the only substance with the ability to pull me out of a depressive episode. That reason alone is enough to feel passionately about marijuana law, but as I continue with thestonermom.com I am constantly amazed by how much people use pot in their daily lives for legitimate medical problems.

On Veterans Day we talk a lot about PTSD and cannabis as an effective treatment. I do want to stress however, that veterans are certainly not the only people to deal with PTSD. Trauma happens in all lives, abusive pasts catch up with all of us. It’s important to fight for marijuana rights for everyone and especially to vote for continued medical research.

Here is what we know about Pot

THC (the psychoactive compound) is effective at treating nausea and pain. THC is often prescribed to cancer patients dealing with severe nausea from their intensive treatments. It is also used as an appetite stimulate for those with chronic disease.

CBD eases inflammation, symptoms of severe epilepsy, mental illness and helps addictions. CBD is completely non-psychoactive, and as far as we know is safe for children.

It seems pretty clear that some form of cannabis whole plant extract can slow the growth of cancer cells. It also seems very likely that THC and CBD both aid radiation effectiveness.

We are in the infancy stage of medical marijuana research. Preclinical and clinical trials are ongoing and are researching marijuana’s effectiveness at treating:

  • HIV/AIDS
  • MS
  • Alzheimers
  • Inflammation
  • Chronic Pain
  • Mental Illness
  • Substance Abuse

Spread the Word

If you are one of the approximately two million American’s using LEGAL medical marijuana, I encourage you to help spread the word so that harmful judgements about this marvelous plant can end. I hate thinking that the medicine I use every day to ease debilitating depression is considered a ‘joke’ for those too bullheaded to do a little research. Let’s show compassion to our fellow Americans and stop giving a crap about what others are using to treat their very personal problems.
