Cleaning Your Grow Tent Post Harvest

You just had a successful grow and finished packing away your beautiful buds to cure. You look in your grow tent and see dead leaves, probably some dirty water in your flood tray, maybe containers filled with soil or coco with the cut stalks of your harvested plants. This is when you think to yourself “I will deal with this tomorrow”.

After a week of procrastinating, you decide the time is now. I thought it would be a good idea to walk you through my tent cleaning regimen post-harvest. I would also love to hear what your process is. Please send your comments to me at dave@whatsgoingonindavesgrow.com.

The Dangers of an Unclean Grow Environment

I think the number one reason for cleaning your tent is to prevent pests from infecting your grow. Spider mites and fungal gnats are pests that will be around forever unless you stay on top of it. This is why I straight-up use bleach when cleaning out the tent. It kills them dead!

It goes beyond just spraying down the inside surfaces of the tent, you must give the fans and exhaust filters some love as well. I replace my filter cover (but you can also wash it in super hot water to kill off everything as well). The oscillating fans are also a vulnerable point for bug infestation. I cleaned out quite a few dried leaves from the back of mine and then gave them the bleach spray treatment. Just get yourself a spray bottle or two (I recommend these) and fill it up with water and a little bleach.

Keep it Clean

Like cooking in the kitchen, clean as you go. I know it’s easier said than done but a shop vac is your best friend during a grow cycle. I use mine to suck up the excess water (which can encourage mold growth) and to suck up dead dry leaves off the floor. Dead leaves can be diseased and the quicker you get rid of them the better.

After you deep clean your tent, it isn’t a bad idea to sweep up the floor outside of your grow space. A bleach spray is also recommended as there could absolutely be bugs (or eggs) around the outside of your tent as well.
